If your theology were wrong, wouldn't you want to know?
Hi and welcome to the Flawed Theology podcast hosted by Phil and Susie. We are both ex-Christians from vastly different backgrounds, different stories, and different paths, that all led to the same place, namely, a life without belief in a god. We hope to unpack some of the flaws in Christianity and to facilitate discussions, questions, and most importantly, critical thinking around the idea of God and religion. We are not experts. We are travelers on a journey, looking for answers and being ok with only finding more questions.

At the end of Season 1, we wanted to connect with our listeners and create a space where you can interact with each other and ask the “dangerous questions”—the ones we were forbidden to ask about God, religion, the origins of the universe, and many others. We’d love to hear from you, so visit the Dangerous Questions Facebook Group and join the conversation.

In today's episode, Phil and Susie delve into the concept of fear and how integral a part it plays in the life of a Christian. We will talk about how fear is the basis of christianity (and many religions), but also teaches its followers to not be afraid. It’s a dichotomy that we’d like to dissect and talk about. The belief system is based on several ways that fear is used throughout the “christianity lifecycle”.

In today's episode, Phil and Susie will ask the question, if the god of Christianity is the one true god, why is he so damn hard to find? We will talk about the idea of “divine hiddenness” and why a real deity, if they were all powerful, all loving, and truly wanted to save their creations, probably wouldn’t be so hard to find, but would want to be known and easily found by everyone.

Phil and Susie chat more in Part 2 with Lars Cade, self taught rage learning expert in the areas of evolutionary biology, young earth creationism, and all things scientific. In this episode, we continue the conversation and talk about young earth creationism and why it's not possible, common arguments for YEC and how to debunk them, intelligent design, and Lars' doctrine of personal infallibility. We start off with a complex scientific discussion between Phoebe Buffet and noted TV paleontologist, Dr. Ross Geller, which is sure to whet your appetite for some serious learning in this episode.

In today's episode, Susie and Phil talk with Lars Cade about some very interesting topics. We are both very interested in science and are always looking to find people who know more than we do about a given topic. Lars is essentially a self-taught guru on the topics of evolutionary biology, young earth creationism, and intelligent design. We are really excited to dig into these topics today and we hope that this will spark your interest to deepen your learning and knowledge in these areas, not only for the standpoint of being able to intelligently debate them with people who believe in YEC or ID, but also for your own personal knowledge building. There are a massive amount of links below with a bunch of information that will help you on your scientific journey.

About Phil
Phil is a former independent, fundamentalist Baptist pastor's kid who was quite literally, born into Christianity. He prayed the "sinner's prayer" at age 4 because he was afraid of Hell and lived the life of the "model Christian" for a very long time. He attended private Christian school from grades K-12, a one year Bible institute, and private Christian university. He has served as a camp pastor at a boy's camp, a youth leader, a college ministry leader, a worship leader at numerous churches, and filled numerous leadership positions in various churches. He currently lives in Virginia, with his wife, 4 kids, 1 dog, and 5 chickens. He is fascinated with space, enjoys tennis, soccer, throwing yoyos, cycling (indoor and outdoor) and works as an IT professional in "real life". His deconstruction journey has been long and had many twists and turns. He writes about his journey on his blog, www.philqmusings.wordpress.com.

About Susie
Susie is a recovering Missouri Synod Lutheran who has "really wanted to believe" her whole life. From an early age, she was too analytical and precocious to have a true belief, so she went through the motions of religion to not disappoint her family. Once she hit her breaking point, she tugged at a loose string of Christianity and watched it all unravel. She enjoys poking holes in the Bible and exploring the logical impossibilities of the Christian religion. Susie currently lives in Maryland with her husband, 2 kids, and 2 cats. In her free time, she loves reading, bike riding, pretending to be good at art, and learning Spanish.
